Crawl Space Repair, Radon Remediation, & Home Renovations in Madison, AL

In a fast-growing, family-focused community like Madison, protecting your home from moisture, structural damage, and poor air quality is more important than ever. With a mix of newer developments and established neighborhoods, many homes in Madison are built over crawl spaces—making them especially vulnerable to humidity, condensation, and hidden moisture issues common throughout North Alabama.

At Heartstrong Services, we specialize in crawl space encapsulation and repair solutions designed to combat Madison’s warm, humid climate. Our process transforms damp, unhealthy crawl spaces into clean, sealed, and controlled environments that protect your home from the ground up.

Because of the stack effect, up to 50% of the air inside your home originates from your crawl space. That means excess moisture, mold spores, and contaminants below your home can directly impact the air your family breathes every day. Our encapsulation systems eliminate that risk by sealing off outside air, controlling humidity, and creating a dry, conditioned space.

Our IICRC-certified professionals provide a full range of crawl space services, including:

  • Crawl Space Encapsulation & Vapor Barriers
  • Structural Repairs & Floor Stabilization
  • Interior Drainage Systems & Sump Pump Installation
  • High-Performance Dehumidification Systems
  • Insulation Upgrades for Improved Energy Efficiency

If your Madison home is experiencing musty odors, sagging floors, or rising energy costs, these are often signs your crawl space needs attention. We also offer advanced mold remediation services, including soda blasting and antimicrobial treatments, to restore wood surfaces and prevent future growth. Additionally, our team can inspect and upgrade your HVAC ductwork to ensure optimal performance in a properly conditioned crawl space environment—improving comfort throughout your home.

For homeowners in Madison, Heartstrong delivers lasting solutions that improve indoor air quality, enhance structural integrity, and protect your investment.

Radon Remediation in Madison, AL: Protect Your Indoor Air Quality

Radon Remediation Services

Radon gas is a silent threat that many homeowners in Madison may not realize is present. This naturally occurring radioactive gas forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and can seep into homes through foundations and crawl spaces—often without any noticeable signs.

Because many homes in Madison are built with crawl spaces, they can provide a direct pathway for radon gas to enter and circulate throughout your home. Without proper testing, radon exposure can go undetected for years.

At Heartstrong, we provide professional radon testing and mitigation services to protect your home and your health. Our trained technicians use advanced detection methods and proven remediation systems to reduce radon levels and maintain a safe living environment.

Health risks associated with radon exposure include:

  • Lung Cancer: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identifies radon as the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S.
  • Respiratory Concerns: Long-term exposure can worsen breathing conditions, especially for vulnerable individuals.
  • Increased Risk for Children: Due to developing lungs and higher respiration rates, children are more susceptible to radon-related health effects.

The only way to know if radon is present in your home is through proper testing. Our team provides clear results, customized solutions, and peace of mind for families throughout Madison AL and surrounding areas.

After inspecting the crawlspace, we addressed the key issues by starting with a Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide treatment to clean and treat affected wood surfaces and help eliminate moisture-related contamination. Next, we installed a 1/3 HP sump pump to actively remove collected water and keep the crawlspace from staying wet. Finally, we completed the upgrade with the Crawlspace Doctor Exclusive Encapsulation System, sealing the space to block ground moisture and outside air—creating a cleaner, drier, and more stable crawlspace environment long-term.

To solve the problems in this home, we started by addressing the mold directly using our Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide treatment to clean and sanitize the affected surfaces in the crawl space. We then installed a partial perimeter drainage pipe system to capture groundwater and direct it into a new sump pump basin, where a 1/3 HP sump pump and dedicated discharge line now move water safely away from the foundation. To control humidity long-term, we added a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier to keep moisture levels in a safe range. We also upgraded access with a custom-built PVC crawlspace door for a tighter, more durable seal. Because we identified structural concerns, we installed a steel beam and PowerPost floor supports to stabilize and strengthen the floor system above. Finally, we encapsulated the crawl space with an R-5 insulated system, including a heavy-duty 15-mil floor liner, to separate the home from the damp earth, improve energy efficiency, and create a clean, dry, and healthy environment underneath the house.

To provide a long-term fix for both the rodent issue and the underlying moisture problems, we started on the outside and under the home, then worked our way up. Around the crawlspace, we installed a full-perimeter drainage pipe system to capture water before it could sit against the foundation and route it into a dedicated sump pump basin. There, a 1/3 HP sump pump now automatically removes collected water through a properly routed discharge line that carries it safely away from the house. Inside the crawlspace, we transformed the environment by installing an R-5 insulated encapsulation system with a heavy-duty 23-mil floor liner, sealing the soil and helping to separate the home from ground moisture. We added a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier to actively control humidity and keep the space dry, and we custom built a PVC crawlspace door that resists rot and provides a tighter seal against outside air and pests. Because rodents and moisture had impacted the HVAC system, we replaced the supply ductwork, return ductwork, and damaged HVAC register runs to restore clean, efficient air distribution. In the attic, we removed the contaminated blown-in insulation that rodents had damaged and then installed fresh insulation to restore proper thermal performance and cleanliness. Together, these steps reduced moisture, removed rodent-impacted materials, tightened up the home’s envelope, and created a much healthier, drier, and less pest-friendly environment.

To solve the problems caused by hydrostatic pressure and standing water, we focused on drying the crawlspace and turning it into a controlled environment instead of a damp, exposed one. We began by removing the existing insulation, which had become damp and was trapping moisture against the floor system, creating ideal conditions for mold and wood decay. Once the insulation was out, we applied a Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide treatment to the exposed wood and surfaces, helping to clean and treat areas that had been affected by moisture and organic growth. After that, we installed a heavy-duty encapsulation system with a 15-mil floor liner, sealing the ground and isolating the home from the damp soil below. To further protect the space, we custom built a PVC crawlspace door that won’t rot, warp, or absorb moisture, and provides a tighter seal against outside air and humidity. Finally, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier to actively control humidity levels and keep the crawlspace dry year-round. Together, these steps reduced the impact of hydrostatic pressure inside the crawlspace, eliminated standing moisture, and helped protect the home’s structure and indoor air quality over the long term.

To provide a long-term solution and give the homeowner peace of mind, we focused on controlling both water intrusion and moisture in the crawlspace. We began by installing a dedicated sump pump basin to collect any groundwater or future leaks that might accumulate under the home. Inside the basin, we set a 1/3 HP sump pump and connected it to a properly sized discharge line, routing the water safely away from the foundation to prevent it from recycling back toward the house. To handle ongoing humidity and help prevent mold and mildew from returning, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier, designed to automatically pull excess moisture from the air and maintain a healthier crawlspace environment. We also custom built a PVC crawlspace door, which is resistant to rot and warping, to help better seal and protect the area from outside air and pests. Finally, we replaced the affected HVAC register run that had been compromised by the water event, ensuring clean, dry air delivery to the living space above. Together, these steps not only addressed the immediate water damage concerns but also helped protect the home against future moisture and air quality issues.

April 21, 2025 | Madison , AL

To resolve the issues caused by standing water in the homeowner’s crawlspace, our team implemented a comprehensive solution designed to address both the immediate moisture problem and prevent future concerns. We began by soda blasting the affected areas to clean and remove mold and debris safely. A full perimeter drainage pipe system was installed to channel water efficiently into a newly placed sump pump basin, where a powerful 1/3 HP sump pump now actively removes excess water through a dedicated discharge line. To further protect the space, we installed our Crawlspace Doctor Exclusive Encapsulation System, sealing the crawlspace from outside moisture. A Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier was added to control humidity levels consistently. For structural reinforcement, we installed PowerPost floor supports and a new steel beam to stabilize weakened areas. We also custom-built a durable PVC crawlspace door to provide secure access, and replaced the HVAC return ductwork to ensure healthy airflow throughout the home. This integrated approach not only solved the standing water issue but also significantly improved the overall health and stability of the crawlspace and home.
